Through our participation in the various trade associations, we are working to continue the sustainable forestry management that has been practiced in the North American hardwood industry.

Northland and its associates are actively involved in several industry organizations.

The National Hardwood Lumber Association's mission is

The Hardwood Manufacturing Association is the nation's leading independent source of information about solid hardwood furnishings, cabinetry, millwork, and flooring.  Our members are among the nation's largest producers of quality lumber from hardwoods grown in the United States.

The Kentucky Forest Industries Association promotes the economic welfare and interests of the Kentucky wood industry.  The association has a wide range of membership and is designed to assist primary and secondary wood industry landowners, loggers and service industries.  The primary concern of the association is to solve membership problems which pose a threat to business operation.  These activities involve dealings with regulations, forest closures, worker's compensation and industry promotion along with a wide variety of additional benefits.

The Indiana Hardwood Lumbermen's Association is a non-profit trade organization comprised of sawmills, wholesalers, equipment vendors, secondary users, and others who recognize the benefits of working together on projects of interest to the hardwood industry.  The objectives of IHLA include:

bulletEncouraging private landowners to practice sound forest management principals.
bulletProvide educational materials and support.
bulletSupport educational and research activities which promote or improve professional or public understanding of forest management and wood utilization.

The purpose of Hardwood Distributors Association is to promote fair competition between members of the industry and to promote and protect the interests of wholesale distribution yards.  This association covers the activities of recognized wholesale lumber distributing yards handling at wholesale not only hardwoods but also those additional items of lumber and forest products that custom and practice has or may develop in the various sections.

The Canadian Lumbermen's Association, founded in 1907, strives to promote the interest and conserve the rights of those engaged in lumber operations, or in the manufacture, sale or distribution of lumber and related products.  CLA membership is divided into four categories:

bulletThe Wood Products Manufacturing & Inspection Bureau is comprised of softwood lumber manufacturers.
bulletThe Wholesale & Export Bureau includes softwood wholesalers and exporters.
bulletThe Hardwood Bureau is made up of hardwood manufacturers, hardwood flooring manufacturers, hardwood wholesalers, etc.
bulletAssociates are members that do not manufacture lumber per se, but provide products and services to the lumber industry.

The American Hardwood Export Council is the leading international trade association for the U.S. hardwood industry, representing the committed exporters among the U.S. hardwood companies and all the major U.S. hardwood product trade associations.  AHEC's member companies service the growing demand for U.S. hardwood and represent the full range of U.S. hardwood products including:

The Appalachian Lumbermen's Club was formed to promote interest in the hardwood industry and to encourage better, more productive relationships, between the manufacturers, sellers and users of hardwood products. ALC promotes and advertises problems and solutions faced by individuals and groups involved in the hardwood lumber industry.

The vision the Architectural Woodwork Institute strives for is to be the authoritative source for the advancement of architectural woodwork through education, standards, certification and marketing while promoting integrity, quality and value among design professionals, customers, suppliers and all AWI members.
