Color:  Wheat or Caramel in color, uniform, and virtually mineral free.
Pattern:  Flake figure less prominent than white oak's.
Characteristics:  Slightly coarser grain, tighter growth rings than the Appalachian. Tends to run shorter and narrower as well.
Uses:  Nearly all common uses of hardwoods, and especially popular where strength and durability are required .
Availability:  Readily available as veneer (plain sliced, quarter sliced, rift cut and half-round); readily available as lumber.
